Gambier, Ohio – September 19, 2009 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team lost a physical match against Kenyon College with the score of 2-0. Heidelberg goes to 1-4-1 on the season while Kenyon improves to 2-5.
Kenyon first put points on the board when Virginia Rushton connected with Katie Flee in the 12th minute who then managed to sneak the ball passed Heidelberg’s goal keeper Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) to make the score 1-0, which eventually captured the game-winning goal.
Adding insurance for Kenyon was Lisa Vaughan in the 55th minute, when Vaughan received the ball from a deflection off of Heidelberg’s Molly Schriber initial save, and then placed the ball in the back of the net.
Heidelberg’s Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio / Milford) lead the Student Princes with two shots on the day. Also contributing was Cori-Ann Brown (Columbus, Ohio / Oletangy), Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville), Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson), and Krista Blake (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) each recording a shot.
The Berg’s Sweeney and Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) combined with 13 saves for the game.
The Berg looks to rebound as they host Millikin University, Sunday September 20, at 1:00 p.m.
