Carolyn Gross Finds Back of the Net at Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio – September 23, 2009 – Junior Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) sent the ball through the goal keepers hands to give the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over host Oberlin College tonight, Sept. 23, in women’s soccer action. Following the win, Heidelberg stands at 2-5-1 overall, while Oberlin falls to 3-3-2.

Gross found the back of the net in the 51st minute to help erase a scoreless tie. Her goal was the second of the season and her first game-winning goal on the year. For her career, Gross has 10 goals, including four game-winning goals to her credit.

Oberlin controlled the first half of the contest, managing 14 shots compared to five by the Berg. Assisting the Heidelberg defense was goalkeeper Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) with four saves.  For the game, Sweeney finished with five saves.

In the second half, Oberlin held a 9-3 advantage in shots, with Gross’ goal being the lone shot on goal for the Berg.

For the night, Gross had two shots on goal, while Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) had one.
