New Concord, Ohio – October 24, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team was defeated by Muskingum University with the score of 2-1. The Berg goes to 8-6-2 overall, 3-3-1 in the OAC, while the Muskies improve to 7-10, 2-5 in the OAC.
Heidelberg was the first to score when in the seventh minute Dillard Anu (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville) placed the ball in the back of the net to take the early 1-0 lead. This marked Anu’s second goal of the season.
The Muskies answered when Ian Stripes scored in the 24th minute to knot it up 1-1.
It wasn’t until the second half with five minutes left in the game, that Muskingum took the lead when Tim Knight scored which eventually would lead to a 2-1 win for the Muskies.
Heidelberg outshot the Muskies 17-12 for the game.
Leading for the Berg behind Dillard Anu was Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) and Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) with four shots each.
Heidelberg’s goal keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) accumulated four saves on the day.
Heidelberg returns to action when they travel to Capital University, Wednesday October 28, at 4:00 p.m.
