'Berg Drops to Adrian in Home Opener

Tiffin, Ohio – September 8, 2010 – Despite outshooting its opponent, the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team dropped to Adrian College 2-0. ‘Berg goes to 1-2 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the year.

Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week Sam Barker got things started for Adrian in the 16th minute when she managed to sneak the ball past Heidelberg’s goalie for the early 1-0 lead. Tessa Kellar was credited with the assist.

In the 81st minute, Courtney Pomeroy connected with Barker who scored off a goalie deflection.

After being outshot 5-2 at half, Heidelberg came out strong in the second half and held a 10-9 shot advantage for the game.

Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week freshman Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) led Heidelberg with four shots with two on goal. Junior Rachel Johann (Evansville, Ind. / Evansville Reitz) recorded four shots and one on goal. 

Also making impact on the field for the Berg were freshmen Kim Fetzner (Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany / Schonboru-Gymnasium Bruchsal) and Aleseya Evans (Troy, Ohio / Troy) who both recorded a shot.

Heidelberg’s goal keeper Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) accumulated three saves, including two back-to-back stellar sliding saves in the second half.
