'Berg Holds Off Wooster

Tiffin, Ohio – September 15, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team withstood the College of Wooster’s late run to win its second in a row. The Berg defeated the Fighting Scots 2-1.

Heidelberg improves to 3-2 overall, while Wooster drops to 3-3.

The Berg got things started in the eighth minute when junior Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) made a flawless cross to freshman Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) inside the box in which Hogan would drill the ball in the far post for the 1-0 Heidelberg lead. Hogan now has a team-leading five goals on the season.

Schneider would earn a goal of her own in the 47th minute, putting a soft touch over the Wooster goalie’s head. This marked Schneider’s first goal on the year. Junior Cori-Ann Brown (Columbus, Ohio / Olentangy) earned the assist.

Down 2-0, Wooster made some noise in the 85th minute when Liz Mott made a sliding shot to the far post which just snuck passed Heidelberg’s goalie giving the Fighting Scots a score.

The Berg’s defense would hold off Wooster to capture its first home win on the season.

Heidelberg’s goalie Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) tied a career-high with nine saves.

The Berg continues its three-game home stand as it hosts Kenyon College on Saturday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m.
