Schneider’s Two Goals Earns ‘Berg's 5th Straight Win

Hiram, Ohio – September 23 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team extended its win-streak tonight as it defeated Hiram College 3-2 in overtime. It marks the fifth-straight victory for the Berg, while the third-straight overtime win.

Heidelberg improves to 6-2 overall, while the Terriers drop to 4-5.

Hiram was first to get on the board when Ernestina Zappa found the back of the net in the 15th minute. Kendra Dean picked up the assist.

Freshman Aleseya Evans (Troy, Ohio / Troy) made immediate impact off the bench with a score in the 27th minute which tied up the game 1-1. Sophomore Krista Blake (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) earned the assist on the play. The goal is Evans’s second of the season.

The Berg gained a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute when freshman Brittany Newcomer (Cleveland, Ohio / Holy Name) found junior Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) for the score.

Less than a minute later, Hiram answered with a goal from Melissa Sharpe.

Heidelberg did not waste any time in the first overtime to capture the win when Schneider earned her team-leading third game winner of the year when she scored her second goal of the game in the 94th minute.

Offensively, Schneider had a game-leading three shots on goal. Also earning a shot on goal was Evans, Blake, and freshmen Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) and Kim Fetzner (Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany / Schonboru-Gymnasium Bruchsal).

Heidelberg’s sophomore goal keeper Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) accumulated a game-high eight saves on the night.

The Berg finishes its three-game road trip on Saturday, September 25 against Alma College at 4:30 p.m.
