'Berg Women's Soccer Loses at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio—Junior goalkeeper Molly Schriber (Sidney) made seven saves in the first half, but the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference match to No. 12 Ohio Northern University, 4-0, today at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada, Ohio. Alyssa Merrick scored two goals and assisted on two more scores in the opening period to lead the Polar Bears.

The loss drops the Berg to 6-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the OAC. The Polar Bears improved to 14-1-2 overall and 8-0-0 in the league and have won 10 consecutive matches.

Merrick notched her first assist when she found Abbie Schauble with an open look at the net in the third minute to give ONU a 1-0 lead. Merrick put the Polar Bears up, 2-0, just three minutes later when she headed a Sami Atkinson cross into the net.

ONU extended its lead to 3-0 in the 19th minute, as Merrick and Atkinson reserved roles, with Atkinson scoring of a long-range cross from Merrick.

Merrick scored her second goal of the half in the 28th minute to increase the Polar Bear lead to 4-0.

Playing with just 12 available student-athletes, the Berg offense was paced by sophomore midfielder Brittany Newcomer (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) and freshman midfielder Leeora Mohler (Marysville).

In goal, Schriber logged 45 minutes before being relieved by sophomore Brittany Labry (Aurora/Twinsburg), who made three saves.

Erin Waehner faced one shot in 45 minutes and made one save for ONU. Kristen Dewees played the second half in goal.
