Hiram, OH – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team, along with seventh year head coach Nick Spell, claimed their first win of the season just three short days ago, against the Bison of Bethany College. But despite the efforts of freshman goalkeeper Julie Cross (Bowling Green), who recorded her first collegiate shutout against Hiram College, the Berg did not add another win to their 2012 resume. The Heidelberg ladies tied the Terriers, 0-0 in double overtime.
For 110 minutes, Cross stood tall in goal and stopped nine shots from the Terriers. Cross has already amassed 53 total saves in her freshman campaign.
Freshman Shannon Angel (Hudson) led the Berg offensively with three shots, one of which was on target.
Sophomore Christina Neal (Kingston, TN/Roane County) added two shots of her own for the Student Princes.
The Heidelberg women will travel to Marietta to battle the Pioneers in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, September 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm. The Heidelberg men’s soccer team is scheduled to take the pitch at 4:00 pm in Marietta, following the women’s game that afternoon.
