Women’s Soccer Faces Tough Loss in Season Opener
The Heidelberg College women’s soccer team lost its first game of the season to nationally ranked host University of Chicago 6-0. The Maroons scored their first goal just under eight minutes into play and would go on to net two more before the half. They scored three more goals in the second period.
Heidelberg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) managed 11 saves on the day while defending the net for the entire contest. Taking shots for the Berg were Tara Kirsch (Parma, Ohio / Normandy), Kelly Mueller (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), and freshman newcomers Kayla Neace (Middletown, Ohio / Lemon Monroe) and Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard).
The women play next Sept. 5 against Alma College away in Alma, Mich.; start time is 5:00 p.m.
