Klein Shoots and Scores a Win

For the first time since 2000 the Heidelberg women’s soccer team has opened up the season with a win. Sophomore Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio / Milford) scored her first collegiate goal off a corner kick in the 75th minute of the game during the opening round of the LaRoche Tournament to secure a 1-0 victory over Point Park University for the Berg.

Third-year head coach Nick Spell has seen great improvement in his squad during his tenure. “This is a great start for our program we definitely look to improve upon it,” commented Spell, “Ivy Thompson (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) played a great game on both sides of the ball to help keep us in it. We then set up centerback Katie Klein for the cornerkick and she placed the ball in the right spot to get us a goal.”

The Berg returns to the field to face off against the tournament-hosting Redhawks tomorrow, Saturday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m.
