Redhawks Fly by the Berg for a Win
LaRoche College scored two goals in the second half to defeat the Heidelberg women’s soccer team 2-0 in the second day of competition at the LaRoche Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Jemma Devlin netted the Redhawks first goal in the 9th minute, while Katelyn Gill scored the second in the 22nd minute off an assist from Candice Snyder.
Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) led the offensive push for the Berg by racking up three shots, all of which were on goal. Heather Jones (Newark, Ohio / Newark) contributed two more shots on goal for the Berg. Defensively, Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) guarded the goal for Heidelberg and grabbed five saves.
“The team played really well in the second half,” commented assistant coach Samantha Klopfer, “It was definitely a physical match.”
Heidelberg returns to Ohio to face off against Ursuline College on Wednesday, September 3, in Pepper Pike at 4 p.m.
