’Berg Tops the Scots in Overtime

It took over 103 minutes, but the Heidelberg women’s soccer team pulled off a 2-1 victory over Alma College to raise their record to 3-2-1 on the year. The Scots fall to 2-2.

Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) opened up the game with a goal off an assist from Jennifer Pfau (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) at the 1:04 mark. It was Schneider’s first collegiate goal and Pfau’s first collegiate assist.

Becky Martin tied the game up for the Scots when she knocked one in during the 85th minute of play. Jessica Swan picked up the assist. Neither team was able to net another goal during regulation play and the game was forced into double overtime.

Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) came through for the Berg three minutes into the double overtime when Schneider knocked a pass to her from across the box after receiving a cross from Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville).

It was the second time the Berg has gone into double overtime this season and the first time it has won in the fourth since 2005.

Heidelberg returns to play tomorrow, September 14, at Olivet College. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
