'Berg Ties for Third Time

After the ‘Berg’s fourth double overtime this season, the game remained tied 1-1 between Heidelberg College and Marietta College. Heidelberg is now 4-4-3, while Marietta stands at 2-7-1.        
 
Ivy Thompson (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) scored the lone goal for Heidelberg. After eight minutes went by in the first half, Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Indiana / Bishop Chatard) set Thompson up for a shot in which she scored in the left corner.
 
After 29 minutes passed in the second half, Heidelberg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) was able to make the close save by Marietta’s Jessica Martinez to keep the ‘Berg on top. However, the Pioneers came back to tie the game in the 82nd minute. Freshman Tessa Harlow of Marietta scored off of an assist from Corryn Muench on a free kick and sent the teams into their first overtime.
 
The second overtime continued to be physical, but remained scoreless. Marietta’s Ashley Drehs took the final shot of the contest with just five seconds to go, but Sweeney managed to make the save.
 
Thompson and Heather Jones (Newark, Ohio / Newark) led Heidelberg offensively with two shots each, while Sweeney managed to pick up 17 saves on the game. 

Heidelberg hits the road on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. to face Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
