Heidelberg Falls to Capital in Women's Soccer
The Heidelberg College women’s soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to Capital University tonight on the campus of Capital in Bexley, Ohio. Capital improved to 10-5-2 overall and 5-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Berg stands at 4-11-3 and 0-7-1.
Heidelberg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) had a solid start between the pipes. She picked up five of her 11 saves in the first 20 minutes of action, however the Berg offense could not get things started and did not tally a shot in the opening half of action.
Sweeney and the defense supplied pressure on Capital as time drew close to halftime, limiting the Crusaders to just two shots in the final 15 minutes. However, Capital’s Molly Sheils was able to snuck a ball past Sweeney from 30 yards out in the 36th minute to give Capital a 1-0 lead at the break.
Heidelberg picked up three shots in the second period, but could not settle Capital’s offense as the Crusaders took 17 shots. Sweeney picked up six saves, but the Crusaders found the back of the net in the 61st and 76th minutes to bring the final score to 3-0 in favor of the host institution.
The Berg concludes its regular season slate on Saturday, Nov. 1 with a 2:00 p.m. contest with Mount Union College at Mayer Field. Prior to the start of the game Heidelberg will recognize its lone senior Ivy Thompson (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta).
