McBeath Scores in Double Overtime

Heidelberg concluded the 2008 season with a win over Mount Union College. After 104 minutes of game play, Heidelberg finished the match with a 1-0 win, improving their record to 5-11-3 overall and 1-7-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union’s record falls to 4-14-1 overall and 1-8 in the OAC.
 
The Berg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) had an excellent performance in goal with a total of eight saves. With less than six minutes left in the first half, Sweeney managed to block the shot by Mount Union’s Jennifer Sprandel. After the regulation 90 minutes concluded, the teams were sent into their first overtime.
 
Although the game remained intense in overtime periods, neither team scored in the first overtime. Sweeney swooped up an outstanding save with just seconds left in the first overtime, sending the teams into the final period of the match.
 
After 104 minutes of play, Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Cathedral) had the attempt at a penalty kick for Heidelberg. McBeath played a perfect ball into the right corner of the net to clinch the win for the Berg.

Heidelberg saw great depth offensively recording 22 shots from eight different players. Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) led the Berg with nine total shots, three of which were on goal. Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) added seven total shots, two on goal, and McBeath pitched in six total shots, one on goal.  
 
The match marked the final game for senior Ivy Thompson (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta). Thompson concluded the year with a total of 68 games played, five goals, two assists and twelve points.
