Spell Announces Release of 2009 Schedule
Fourth-year head coach Nick Spell has announced the release of the 2009 Heidelberg University women’s soccer schedule. Its schedule features 19 regular season contests with nine slated to be played at Mayer Field, on the campus of Heidelberg. Also included on the schedule are nine Ohio Athletic Conference games and three opponents that were participants in the 2008 NCAA Championships.
Action begins at the Centre College Tournament the weekend of Sept. 5-6.The Berg opens the season, and the tournament, against host Centre, who were participants in last year’s NCAA Tournament. On Sept. 6, Heidelberg will face Transylvania University.
Following its trip to Danville, Ky. and Centre College, Heidelberg plays four of its next five contests in Tiffin beginning with three-consecutive at home. 2008 NCAA participant Mount St. Joseph College comes to town Sept. 9 followed by Alma College (Sept. 12) and La Roche College (Sept. 15). A one-game road trip to Gambier, Ohio to face Kenyon College Sept. 19 follows next for the Berg before returning home to host Milliken University Sept. 20.
Next on the schedule is four-straight away games beginning with its final three non-conference games featuring Oberlin College (Sept. 23), Geneva College (Sept. 26) and Defiance College (Sept. 30).
The month of October, and its OAC slate, starts at Marietta College Oct. 2. Baldwin-Wallace College travels to Tiffin for an Oct. 7 match up before Heidelberg heads into the heart of its league schedule with two-straight at Mayer Field. Opening the two-game home stand is John Carroll University (Oct. 13) followed by Otterbein College (Oct. 17). Otterbein is the defending conference champion and was a 2008 NCAA Tournament team.
The regular season closes with home contests with Muskingum College (Oct. 24) and Capital University (Oct. 27) sandwiched between away games with Ohio Northern University (Oct. 21) and Mount Union College (Oct. 31).
