‘Berg Drops to the Crusaders

Tiffin, Ohio – October 27, 2009 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team was defeated by Capital University with a score of 3-1. Heidelberg drops to 6-11-1 overall, 3-5 in the OAC, while the Crusaders improve to 12-5-2, 6-2 in the OAC. 
 
Heidelberg had an early 1-0 lead when Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville), in the fifth minute, received a deflection off a defender and placed the ball in the back of the net.
 
Capital answered in the 31st minute when Kaylee Phillips connected with Lauren Bartsch off a corner kick, which then Bartsch snuck the ball in the far corner to knot the game at 1-1.
 
The Crusaders came out strong in the second half. Capital took a 2-1 lead when Molly Sheilis, in the 72nd minute, scored from right outside the box for the eventual game-winning goal. Kaylee Philllips added insurance in the 74th minute with a score resulting in a 3-1 win for Capital.
 
Backing up Carolyn Gross who had three shots and a shot on goal was Krista Blake (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) who had two shots with one on goal. Also making an impact on offense was Emily Riggs (Armada, Mich. / Armada) who had a shot with a shot on goal.
 
Heidelberg’s Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) had a team-high three saves on the day.
 
The Berg returns to action for their last regular season game when they travel to Mount Union College, Saturday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m.
