Three Voted to Women's Soccer Academic All-OAC Team

Austintown, Ohio – November 19, 2009 - The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team has placed three student-athletes on the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Academic All-OAC Team. Earning a spot on the all-academic team was senior defender Ann Washington (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington), while junior defender Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio /Milford) and junior forward Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) earned a spot on the honorable mention list.
 
To qualify, a student-athlete must have maintained a 3.25 grade point average, be a sophomore academically and is in at least her second year of participation. She must also have been a starter or key reserve who has made significant athletic impact. The honorees are voted on by the faculty athletic representatives.
 
Earning a spot for the second-straight year, Washington served as a team captain in her senior campaign. While being the ‘Berg’s anchor on defense, she helped the team accumulate six shutouts on the year which tied for fifth best in the conference. In the classroom Washington is equally impressive carrying a perfect 4.0 grade points average as a business major.
 
Klein joins fellow teammate Washington on the defensive side of the ball, while earning her second-straight All-Academic spot. She holds a 3.70 gpa as an athletic training major. Offensively, Klein took 15 shots, with five on goal and recorded an assist.
 
Picking up her first academic accolade, McBeath carries a 3.50 gpa as a history major. She recorded one goal on 13 shots.
 
Under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Nick Spell, Heidelberg concluded the season at 7-12-1 overall and 4-5 in the OAC, while earning the number sixth spot in the OAC tournament. This marked the first tournament berth since 1999.
