Softball Puts Up Tough Fight At Findlay

The Heidelberg College softball team put up a tough fight at Division II University of Findlay today, but fell on the short end of the scoreboard in both games of a doubleheader. Findlay came from behind to win game one 3-2 in 10 innings and took game two 4-2 in a six-inning game that was called due to lighting. Heidelberg concludes its 2007 season with an overall record of 6-34 and will lose just one to graduation in starting center fielder Rachael Everhart (Huntsville, Ohio / Indian Lake).

In game one, Heidelberg jumped out to a 2-0 lead after its first at bat after RBIs from Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush) and Dessiree Burtch (Prospect, Ohio / Elgin). Scoring runs for the Berg was Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and Ashley Foust (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora) who both reached the base paths on singles.

Heidelberg held a 2-0 advantage until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Oilers plated two runs to force extra innings. Findlay scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on an RBI single from Jeanne Hilvers to earn the 3-2 victory.

Leading the way at the plate in game one was Coree Price (Prospect, Ohio / North Union) and Burtch with two hits apiece. Katherine Allenspach (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora) suffered the loss on the mound, pitching a complete game and gave up 10 hits, while striking out four.

Prior to lighting hitting the Findlay area, Heidelberg had pulled within a run, 3-2, in the top of the fifth inning of game two courtesy of a Killoran two-run double. Unfortunately Findlay scored another run in the bottom half of the inning prior to the game being called.
Price, Ashley Foust (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora), Killoran and Katie Curry (Delaware, Ohio / Buckeye Valley) each finished with multiple hits in the setback.
