Berg drops two at B-W

The Heidelberg University softball team suffered two setbacks at Baldwin-Wallace College today. The Yellow Jackets won game one, 8-4 and posted a 9-1 win in five innings in the night cap. Heidelberg stands 2-16 overall, 0-3 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets are 14-8 overall, 2-2 in the OAC.
 
Starting off strong in game one, Heidelberg scored three runs in the first inning. Andera Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio/ Ottawa-Glandorf) hit an RBI single to score Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio/Hopewell-Laundon), who reached on a walk. Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) followed with a ground out to first to knock inKella Lange (Medina, Ohio/ Medina).  The third run of the inning was courtesy of a Baldwin-Wallace miscue.   
 
The Berg tacked on one more run in the top of the third with a Lange solo homerun. This wasn’t enough to keep Heidelberg in the lead as the Yellow Jackets came back to take the lead in bottom of the fourth and never looked back.
 
Taking the loss on the mound for Heidelberg was Katie Allenspach (Aurora, Ohio/ Aurora). She pitched six innings, allowing eight runs, whiling striking out four.
 
In game two of the day, Baldwin-Wallace didn’t let up while they plated nine runs in the first four innings. Baldwin-Wallace took the win in the fifth. Heidelberg was able to fight for a run on a fielder’s choice by Gerdeman in the fifth inning.
 
Taking the loss in the second game for the Berg was Briana Hinz (Madison, Ohio/ Madison). She pitched three innings and gave up nine hits and seven runs.
 
Heidelberg is back in action Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Mayer Field as they take on Wilmington at 1:00p.m.
