'Berg takes two from Wilmington

The Heidelberg University softball team brought a never quit attitude into today’s match up verse Wilmington College and posted back-to-back come from behind wins, 4-3 and 5-4. The sweep makes it nine-straight wins for Heidelberg over the Quakers. Heidelberg is now 4-16 overall, 2-4 in the OAC, while Wilmington drops 6-12 overall, 0-6 in the OAC.
 
In the first game, Heidelberg made it clear they weren’t backing down till the end. To lead off the seventh inning, Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio/ Brush) had a single to right center, allowing Briana Hinz (Madison, Ohio/ Madison) to follow with a two run homerun to tie up the game 3-3. Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio/ Hopewell-Loudon) doubled to left center to score Jessica Jennette (LaRue, Ohio/ Elgin) home, captivating the win 4-3. Jennette followed Hinz at the plate and earned a walk.
 
With the win for Heidelberg today was Katie Allenspach (Aurora, Ohio/ Aurora). She pitched seven innings, gave up six hits and grabbed two strike outs.
 
In the second game, Heidelberg put up a fight. Trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio/ Glandorf) connected for a bases loaded double to pull the Berg within a run 4-3. Heidelberg’s defense held Wilmington scoreless in the top of the sixth to set the stage for an eventual Dana Thoms (Amherst, Ohio/ Firelands) two run homerun in the bottom half of the inning, for a 5-4 Berg win.
 
Thoms won game two on the mound with four innings pitched in relief. She gave up four hits and struck out two.
 
Contributing to Heidelberg’s wins for the day was Kella Lange (Medina, Ohio, Medina), who grabbed a homerun to start off the Berg with a bang in the bottom of the first in game two.Gerdeman, went 4-for-5 and had her first homerun of the year.
 
The Berg will travel to John Carroll University Tuesday April 7th. The opening pitch will be thrown at 3:30 p.m.
