Capital Takes Two From 'Berg

Host Capital University swept a doubleheader from the Heidelberg University softball team today in an Ohio Athletic Conference action. The win improves Capital to 16-10 overall and 6-4 in the OAC, while the Berg stands at 4-22 and 2-8.
 
Game one opened with two scoreless innings. In the third Capital took advantage of a ’Berg miscue to gain a base runner that eventually scored. The Crusaders added five runs off of four hits in the fourth and another run in the sixth to take the win, 7-0.
 
Heidelberg finished with five hits in the game with Briana Hinz (Madison, Ohio / Madison) leading the way with a 2-for-3 outing. Picking up a hit apiece was Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush), Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) and Jessica Jennette (LaRue, Ohio / Elgin).
 
The nightcap started similar to the opener, with two scoreless innings. And Capital broke the zeros in the third with two runs. The Crusaders added four runs in the fifth to bring its total to six.
 
Heidelberg did not quit and scored its two runs in its final at bat. Dana Thoms (Amherst, Ohio / Firelands) singled through the right side to score pinch runner Danielle Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon), while Jennette knocked in Bobbi Kendeigh (Oberlin, Ohio / Firelands) on a fielder’s choice.
 
Picking up two hits apiece was Kendeigh and Killoran.
