'Berg Takes Game Two From Marietta

The Heidelberg University softball team posted an Ohio Athletic Conference split with host Marietta College today. The Berg rebounded from a 4-0 setback in game one to take a 6-1 victory in game two. Heidelberg now stands at 5-25 overall and 3-11 in the OAC, whie Marietta is 21-11 overall and 8-6 versus league foes.
 
In game two, after two scoreless innings, the Berg took charge. Its first three batter’s of the inning reached base and Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) followed with two-run single through the left side. Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush) stepped to the plate after Gerdeman and plated one run to set up a Kella Lange (Medina, Ohio / Median) three-run home run to left field to give the Berg a 6-0 lead.
 
Marietta scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning.
 
Heidelberg had a solid defensive effort that was centered on the arm of starter Katie Allenspach (Aurora, Ohio /Aurora). Allenspach threw a complete-game, giving up nine hits, while striking out five.
 
Gerdeman led the way with two hits, while Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon), Killoran and Lange each had one.
 
In game one, Marietta scattered four runs over the first five innings to post the shutout win. The Pioneers had eight hits compared to just three by the Berg. Picking up a hit was Reinhart, Sami Lindsay (Bakersfield, Calif. / North) and Allenspach.
