'Berg Has Two Academic All-OAC Picks

The Heidelberg University softball team was represented by two student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Honorable Mention team. Earning her second academic honor was senior Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush), while junior Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) is picking up her first postseason academic honor.

The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.

Killoran’s honor joins her honorable mention selection from 2007. She graduated from Heidelberg with a 3.25 grade point average as a biology and chemistry major. In her final season Killoran sat atop the team in batting average (.292), hits (31) and home runs (4), while sharing team-high honors with Gerdeman with 12 runs batted in. Killoran started at third base in 37 of the 38 games she appeared in and boasted a .900 fielding percentage.

A health and physical education major, Gerdeman carries a 3.48 gpa. A mainstay at first base, Gerdeman led the team with 194 putouts en route to a .967 fielding percentage. At the plate, she was second on the team with a .237 batting average and 22 hits, along with her 12 RBIs.

Heidelberg finished the year at 5-33 overall and 3-15 versus league opponents. Included in its list of victories was a doubleheader sweep of Wilmington College, as well as a victory at perennial OAC power Marietta College.
