Gerber Earns Player of the Week Honors

Austintown, Ohio – March 22, 2010 – For the second time on the 2010 season the Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor has landed in Tiffin. Heidelberg University sophomore Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) is the recipient of the honor for the week of March 22. She is joining sophomore Emily Naugle’s (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) award from the week of March 8.

For the week of March 22 Gerber is one of four honorees from the Berg. Picking up softball hitter of the week honors was senior third baseman Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), while junior Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) was tabbed the baseball pitcher of the week. Finally junior Dylan Booth (Westerville, Ohio / Central) secured a ’Berg tennis sweep, claiming the men’s player of the week honor.

In an 8-1 victory for the Berg on Saturday in its OAC opener at Muskingum University Gerber was one of five players to post two wins on the day.

At second doubles Gerber teamed up with Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde) to post an 8-5 victory. The win was the second-straight for the duo and its fourth in its last five outings. For the year, in the second spot, they own a record of 5-3.

Following doubles action Gerber added to her singles victory column with a hard fought 6-1, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-6) win in the second singles spot. Her win was her second-consecutive to improve her overall record on the year to 6-1.
