Regular Season Closes Out on High Note

Lexington, Ohio - May 2, 2010 - The Heidelberg University women's tennis team, under the guidance of head coach Jerry McDonald, closed out its 2010 regular season on a high note today with a 9-0 victory over Capital University. Today's Ohio Athletic Conference match was played indoors in Lexington, Ohio. The victory increases Heidelberg's record to 5-11 overall and 3-6 against league foes, while the Crusaders fall to 1-10, 0-9.

Heidelberg gained an early point from a Crusader forfeit at third doubles. Picking up an 8-1 victory at first doubles was Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) and Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby). Following their lead was the duo of Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) and Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) with an 8-0 win at second doubles.

The Berg continued its winning ways into single action, picking up five wins and another victory by forfeit. Heidelberg and Capital played pro sets in its single play and posting a 10-0 victory was Early at fourth singles. The victory extends Earl's overall record to 9-7, which leads the team.

Picking up 10-1 wins was Kurtzman at first singles, Naugle in the third spot and Linda Miller (Garfield Heights, Ohio / Garfield Heights) at fifth singles. Rounding out the list of victors was Gerber with a 10-2 win at second singles. For the year, Gerber backs Earl with an overall record of 8-8.

Heidelberg picked up its last point by virtue of another forfeit at sixth singles. Picking up the win was Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde).
