Women’s Tennis Hosts Otterbein in Pivotal OAC Match Wednesday

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team will host Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Wednesday in Tiffin, Ohio. The match against is slated for 3:30 p.m. Otterbein sits in third place in the OAC standings, but holds just a one-match lead over Heidelberg, which is currently in fifth.

Heidelberg (5-8, 3-3 OAC) is coming off a 9-0 loss Saturday to the University of Mount Union.

Freshman Katie Strahan (West Chester/Lakota East) leads the team in singles play with an 8-5 overall and 4-2 OAC record. Senior Kayla Gerber (Clyde) and sophomore Deidre Potter (Chillicothe) have posted the team’s best doubles record at 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.

Otterbein (7-9, 4-2 OAC) has won its last two matches following a 9-0 sweep Friday over Muskingum University.

The Cardinals are led in singles play by Taylor Jordan, who is 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the OAC. Jordan and Julie Stroyne anchor the doubles tandems with an 8-3 overall and 4-1 OAC mark.

Following Wednesday’s match, Heidelberg will close the regular season with an OAC match at John Carroll University. The 2012 OAC Women’s Tennis Tournament will be held on May 1, 4 and 5. The eight-seed bracket will be held on campus sites on May 1 before moving to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason for the semifinals and finals rounds.
