Heidelberg University women’s tennis picked up 5-4 win at Marietta while men’s tennis fell 5-2 in Tiffin.
The win improved the women’s record to 4-8, 3-2 in the OAC. The men fell to 4-9, 1-3 in the conference.
Katie Strahan (West Chester/Lakota East) defeated Marietta’s Cate Gisser at first singles 7-5, 6-3.
At second singles, Sofey Fugate (Cincinnati/Lakota East) beat Natalie Turner 6-2, 6-2.
Strahan and Fugate teamed up to win 8-2 at first doubles.
Sara Potts (Clyde) won at third singles, defeating Kelsey Jeffrey 6-1, 6-4.
Potts and Deidre Potter (Chillicothe/Unioto) won at second doubles 9-8 (8-6).
With two singles matches unfinished, Zach Schwenning (Barberton) took the only ‘Berg victory in singles play. Schwenning defeated Pioneer Alex Schaeffer 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9.
In doubles, Schwenning and Cliff Goetz (Oak Harbor) took down Schaeffer and Ashton Whiteleather, 8-3.
All of the matches between the teams were close, including a nailbiter at second doubles. Matt McDivitt (Cortland/Lakeview) and Dorion Kempf (Galion) were narrowly defeated by Teddy Daub and Karl Grant 9-8 (7-3).
Baldwin Wallace awaits the men’s and the women’s teams. The men will play Tuesday and the women will play Wednesday.
