Pioneers Slip by the Berg

It was a close match, but the Marietta College women’s tennis team pulled of a 5-4 upset against Heidelberg College in an Ohio Athletic Conference match up in Marietta, Ohio. The Berg falls to 2-4 on the year, 0-1 in the OAC.

Victories for Heidelberg came at second, third, and fourth singles, along with second doubles. Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) won the second singles match for the Berg in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, while Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) walked away with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at third singles. Fourth singles saw Dawn Neumeyer (Parma, Ohio / Parma) defeat Marietta’s Kainani Lovette 6-1, 6-4.

Naugle and Neumeyer teamed up at second doubles to beat Jen Wolfe and Lovette 8-2.

Heidelberg brings its rackets out next on Tuesday, April 1, at home against Capital University. Competition begins at 3:30 p.m.
