Heidelberg Blanks Muskingum
A 9-0 sweep of Muskingum College gave the Heidelberg College women’s tennis team its second win of the year, first in Ohio Athletic Conference action. Currently, the Berg’s record stands at 2-8 for the season, 1-5 in the OAC.
In singles, Amanda Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) led the way in the first position with a 10-2 win over the Muskies’ Lauren Grafe. She was followed by Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) at second singles; she defeated her opponent 10-8. Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) emerged victorious in third singles with an 8-1 win, while Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) earned an 8-2 victory in the fourth spot. At fifth singles, Dawn Neumeyer (Parma, Ohio / Parma) picked up her fourth triumph of the season with a final score of 8-5 over Muskingum’s Amanda Chema. Meanwhile, Cassandra Nino (Williard, Ohio / Williard) further cemented the team win in the sixth singles spot with a 10-4 victory.
In doubles, Hanning and Harrigan teamed up in the first position and won 8-1. Kurtzman and Naugle shut out their competition 8-0 in the second doubles spot, and Neumeyer and Kara Barbernitz (Ashland, Ohio / Ashland) polished the day off with am 8-5 win in the third position.
