Women's Tennis Blanks Bluffton, 9-0
The Heidelberg College women’s tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action and never looked back in a 9-0 victory over host Bluffton University today in the 2007-08 season opener for the Berg.
Claiming early victories was the team of Amanda Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) and Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) 8-3 at first doubles followed by the group of Liz Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) and Emly Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) 8-2 at second doubles and Dawn Neumeyer (Parma, Ohio / Parma) and Ashley Dodrill (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) 8-6 at third doubles.
Heidelberg won at first through fifth singles in straight sets, and Cassandra Nino (Williard, Ohio / Williard) won 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in the sixth singles spot. Hanning controlled the court at first singles 6-2, 6-0 and Harrigan followed winning 6-2, 6-3. Kurtzman picked up her first collegiate victory 6-3, 6-0 at third singles and fellow classmate Naugle also earned her first collegiate victory by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles. Rounding out the scoring for Heidelberg was Neumeyer with a 6-4, 6-2 win at fifth singles.
The Berg, under the guidance of Jerry McDonald, continues its fall schedule Sept. 20 at Tiffin University beginning at noon. Heidelberg will also face Sinclair on the courts at cross-town rival Tiffin.
