Quakers Top the Berg in Women's Tennis
The Wilmington College women’s tennis team topped host Heidelberg University today, 6-3, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at the Heidelberg Tennis Courts. The Berg falls to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the OAC, while Wilmington improves to 5-4 and 2-1 OAC.
The Quakers swept doubles play and added a win at first singles to hold a 4-0 advantage. Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) and Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) cut Heidelberg’s deficit in half with wins at second and third singles. Kurtzman fell in set one, 6-1, but bounced back to win 6-4, 6-4 for the singles victory. Naugle won in straight sets by identical 6-4 scores.
Wilmington went on to win at fourth and sixth singles to seal the win. Heidelberg’s Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio /Urbana) was able to come from behind in the fifth spot to garner the Berg’s final point on the day. Harrigan fell 6-1 in set one, but responded with a 6-3 win in set two and a 6-4 victory in set three for the point.
Next up for the Berg is a home match with Otterbein College Monday, April 6. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
