Women's Tennis Blanks Muskies
The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team opened up with three wins in doubles play and never looked back en route to a 9-0 win over host Muskingum College in an Ohio Athletic Conference match. The Berg improves to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the OAC, while the Muskies falls to 1-11 and 1-7.
Mandy Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) and Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) started things off with an 8-4 win at first doubles. Posting an 8-6 win at second doubles was the duo of Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde) and Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde). Closing out doubles play with an 8-3 win was Cassandra Nino (Willard, Ohio / Willard) and Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby).
Heidelberg won all six singles matches in straight sets. Hanning posted a 6-3, 6-0 win in the first spot followed by a 6-0, 6-2 win by Naugle at second singles. Gerber won 6-1, 6-1 in third singles play followed by Harrigan in the fourth spot. Harrigan blanked her opponent in both sets.
Rounding out the wins on the day was Young with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles and Nino with a 6-1, 6-3 win at sixth singles.
