Two Receive OAC Top Academic Honors
Seniors Amanda Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) and Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) of the Heidelberg University women’s tennis team have been named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Women's At-Large First Team.
The women’s at-large team consists of student-athletes from the sports of golf, swimming and diving and tennis. To be eligible a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport. The award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletic representatives.
Hanning is picking up her third-straight first-team academic honor from the OAC. She graduated this month with a degree in sports management and communications. While at Heidelberg, she carried a 3.53 grade point average. In 2009, Hanning played at first singles and doubles. In singles play she finished 1-11.
Harrigan is being recognized for her academics for the first time as a member of the women’ tennis team, but has also been named to the women’s basketball Academic All-OAC list twice. A sports management major, Harrigan completed her studies with a 3.88 gpa. She held down the fifth singles spot for the Berg through out the entire season and finished with an overall record of 6-3. Harrigan closed out the year winning three-straight matches.
The duo played at first doubles and was 4-7. For the year, Heidelberg was 4-8 overall and made an appearance in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
