Heidelberg Defeats Defiance
Heidelberg women’s tennis picked up its first win of the new school year with an 8-1 victory over Defiance College.
Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) defeated Mandi Losby of Defiance 6-3, 6-2 at second singles for the Berg’s first team point of the day. Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) won third singles 6-2, 6-1 and Mindy Kaesemeyer (Clarksville, Ohio) defeated her opponent at fourth singles for a 6-2, 6-1 victory. At fifth singles, Dawn Neumeyer (Parma, Ohio / Parma) blanked Amanda Johnson 6-0, 6-0 for the shutout, while Cassandra Nino (Williard, Ohio / Williard) rounded singles play out with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the sixth spot.
Amanda Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) lost Heidelberg’s only match of the day to Amanda Auzins 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in the first singles spot, but redeemed herself when she teamed up with Naugle and won first doubles 8-6 against Auzins and Losby. Neumeyer and Gerber captured second doubles for the Berg by a score of 9-7, while Nino and Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde) finished the day off with a 8-4 victory in third doubles.
Heidelberg returns to the court to take on Bluffton University at home on September 30 at 3:30 p.m.
