'Berg Blanks Defiance

The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team started their fall play with a home match against Defiance College. After a 9-0 win the Berg will start the year with a 1-0 record as the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-9.
 
In singles play Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Oh / Shelby) defeated Sammie Stevens of Defiance 6-1, 6-0. Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) also won her match at third single with a score of 6-0, 6-1 against opponent Katie Carunchic. Four singles players would blank their opponents giving up no games for the evening. Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio) at second singles against Jerika Hennes. While Kristen Tapassi (Austinburg, Ohio / Geneva), Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde) and Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) rounded out the scoring at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles spots.
 
The duo of Naugle and Kurtzman led the scoring for doubles play at the number one spot winning 8-1. Gerber and Young also defeated their opponents with a score of 8-1. While Linda Miller (Garfield Heights, Ohio / Garfield Heights) and Kristen DeVaughn (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes) finished the night with an 8-2 win.
 
The Berg will host one last fall match against Bluffton College on October 1 at 3:30 p.m.
