Lucas Leads The Berg To Best Showing In OAC Championships Since 2000

First-year head coach Kevin Lucas led the Heidelberg College women’s track and field team to its best finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships since 2000. Heidelberg finished sixth in the 10-team field, which is the highest finish since standing sixth in 2000.

Otterbein College won the conference meet with 177 points followed by host Baldwin-Wallace with 129.50 points. Ohio Northern University finished third with 96 points, while Capital University (80) and Mount Union College (67.50) rounded out the top-five. Heidelberg followed Moutn Union with 62 points.

Earning individual conference championships was freshman Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) in the 400-meter dash (57.69)  and Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) in the high jump (5’1.25), while the 4x400-meter relay team of Depinet, Jones, Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) and Jaimee Olmstead (Stryker, Ohio / Stryker) won a relay championships in a time of 3:59.71. For their efforts Depinet, Jones and the 4x400-meter relay team all earned all-conference accolades.

Also coming away with all-league honors after standing third was Depinet in the 200-meter dash (25.92), Jones in the 800-meter run (2:18.61), Zellner in the 400-meter dash (59.39) and the 4x100-meter relay team (49.79) of Paige Reiman (Defiance, Ohio / Tinora), Jones, Zellner and Depinet. Depinet ran a 25.51 on Friday in the 200-meter preliminaries, which topped her own school record. Also topping its own school record was the 4x100-meter relay team.

On Friday, Heidelberg’s 4x800-meter relay team of Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), Zellner, Jones and Depinet also set a new school record at 9:34.12, which was good enough for a fourth place finish.
