Judy Bataille Tabbed OAC Track Athlete of the Week

Sophomore sprinter Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) of the Heidelberg College women’s track and field team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 14, 2008. It is Bataille’s first career track athlete of the week honor and joins Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) of the men’s team as honorees for the week.

Bataille helped guide Heidelberg to a fourth place finish at the 2008 Capital Purple and White Invitational over the weekend in Bexley. She claimed two championships, as well as provisionally qualified for nationals in the 55-meter dash for the second-consecutive outing.

En route to a time of 7.26 in the 55-meter dash, Bataille won the event and provisionally qualified for the 2008 NCAA Championships March 14-15 at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Bataille returned to claim the 200-meter dash in a school record 26.40, which topped the previous record of 26.94 set by current sprinter Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) a year ago. Both times set new Capital Center records as well.

Bataille is in her first season with the Berg and in just two meets, as already inked her named among the Heidelberg record books. Aside from her 200-meter dash record she set at Capital, Bataille topped the Heidelberg record book in the 55-meter dash in December. Bataille crossed the finish line in 7.25, which topped the 1990 record of 7.3 set by Becky Banhagel.
