Good Showing for Heidelberg at Otterbein

The women’s track and field team for Heidelberg College continued to break records at the Otterbein Ohio Athletic Conference Qualifier this past Friday, while the men dominated their competition in a number of events.

Individually for the women, Rachel Hill (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) took fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, but set a new school record time of 9.07 seconds. Paige Reiman (Defiance, Ohio / Tinora) followed her in fifth place in a time of 9.21. Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) snagged two first place finishes for her performances in the 55-meter dash (7.44) and the 300-meter dash (43.33). Meanwhile, Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), Caitlyn Evers (Burkettsville, Ohio / St. Henry), Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel), and Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) teamed up to set a new school record in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet broke the record previously this season, but surpassed their previous time by well more than a second for a finishing time of 4:01.06.

In field events, Breeanca Madison (Columbus, Ohio / Africentric Secondary School) earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a length of 32’ 7.75” and Megan Richardson (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) also grabbed the five-spot in the shot put with a throw of 35’ 6”.

The men overtook their competition in the 400-meter dash, placing four in the top-5. Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) won the race for the Berg in a time of 50.03, followed by Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) in second (50.10), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) in third (51.75), and Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) rounding out the pack in fifth (52.16). Beebe also won first place in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.79 seconds, while Brandon Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) snagged first in the 500-meter run (1:09.58). Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) and Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) finished things off with a fifth place finish in the 300-meter dash (37.35) and a first place standing in the long jump (22’ 7”).
