Evers Finishes Big at OAC Championships

Catie Evers (Burkettsville, Ohio / St. Henry) had a big day in the lanes for the Heidelberg College women’s track and field team at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships held in Wilmington, Ohio. She won the 400-meter dash in 58.47 and helped the Berg to a second place finish in the 4x100-meter relay and a third place in the 4x400-meter relay, earning herself three All-OAC honors in one day.

As a team the women managed to finish seventh, even while competing without NCAA Indoor Track National Champion sprinter Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin).

Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) finished behind Evers in fourth place in the 400-meter dash and joined her teammate on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to earn two All-OAC honors. Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) also ran well for the Berg, placing third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.63 and third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.20. Nitchman was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400 teams, giving her four All-OAC marks. Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) joined Evers, Zellner, and Nitchman on the 4x100 team for an All-OAC honor, while Jocelyn Hughes (Oberlin, Ohio / Oberlin) took part in the 4x400 team and picked up an All-OAC honor as well.

Erica Tenwalde (Ada, Ohio / Lima Shawnee) came in fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for Heidelberg in a time of 12:28.12, knocking off about 33 seconds from her preliminary qualifying time. Along with Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), Caitlyn Bromley (Stow, Ohio / Stow Monroe), and Tabitha Grim (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River), Tenwalde also placed fifth in the 4x800-meter relay. The quartet finished in a time of 9:57.25.
