Third Place Finish at Friday Night Series

The Heidelberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams traveled to Ohio Northern University for the Friday Night Series meet on January 17, 2009. Both teams ended the night with a third place finish. The host Polar Bears won both the men's and women's series.
 
There were several men finishing in the top-three from start to finish at the series. In the first event, the 60-meter dash, Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) finished second with a time of 7.11. Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.10 and Higginbotham finished the long jump with a leap of 23'3.25" to take first on the night. 
 
Continuing on through the events, Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / west Liberty-Salem) finished in second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.50. Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) finished with a time of 1:07.70 in the 500-meter run, good enough for third, while Adam Bumb (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) secured a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 37'8.5".  
 
In the 4x200 meter relay both the men and women finished in first place. The men’s team consisted of Higginbotham, Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland), Brett Meadows (Marysville, Ohio / Bellefontaine) and Frank Krill (edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) (1:34.40). On the women’s team was Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township), Tomika Brown (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellfontaine), Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) and Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) (1:52.34). Also taking home top-two relay finish was the men’s 4x400 meter relay in second (3:28.60).
 
The women also had several top finishers on the night. Taking a first place finish was Brown in the high jump (5'3.25") and Aaliyah Vanleer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) in the shot put (37'10.75"). Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) finished 200 meter dash in 27.50 to take second and Brown followed suit in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.45.
 
Heidelberg returns to action at the University of Findlay for the Northwest Ohio Invite on January 23.
