Handful of Runners Place at Kent State Tune-Up

Head coach Keith Roberts Jr. and the Heidelberg University track and field team are in final preparations for the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. To improve on their results at the league meet the Berg took part in the Kent State Tune-Up hosted by Kent State University on Saturday, February 21.
 
A handful of runners placed at the predominately Division I and II meet. Leading the way was the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek). The relay team finished second in a school record and NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 3:17.57. They topped the previous school record of 3:18.64 which was set last year. Childs and Hendricks were members of the previous school record holding relay.
 
Also taking home runner-up honors was Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) in the 300-meter dash. She crossed the finish line in 42.22.
 
Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) was a two-time placer for the Berg with a third in the 60-meter dash (6.98) and a fourth in the long jump (22’2.75).
 
Hendricks also finished third in the 300-meter dash in a time of 35.87, while Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) tied for sixth in the high jump (6’4”).
 
Rounding out the top performances on the day was the women’s 4x400-meter relay with an eighth place finish in 4:09.73. Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), McLellan, Jazmine Shaw (Columnbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) comprised the relay.
