Heidelberg Races at Joe Banks Invite

The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams utilized the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University on Friday as final preparation for the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. The men’s team took third in the 10-team field, while the women stood seventh.
 
Leading the way was the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek). Heidelberg was one of four teams racing that have qualified for the NCAA Championships. The Berg topped the field with a time of 3:20.26.
 
Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) had a championship in the long jump with a leap of 22’6.5” and he took to the track and raced to a runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash (6.98). Also taking home runner-up honors was Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) in the 300-meter dash in a time of 26.30.
 
Taking home two top-five finishes was Adam Bumb (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel). Bumb stood second in the triple jump (41’1”) and was tied for fourth in the long jump (20’1.75”).
 
Racing a personal best time of 15:48.64 in the 5,000-meter run was Jamie Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater). Kuess finished third in the final standings. Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland) was third in the 300-meter dash (36.33) and Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) followed in fourth (36.58). Yoder also took third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.89.
 
Placing fourth was Kevin Mermin (Rossford, Ohio / Rossford) in the shot put with a toss of 44’0.75” and Sean Hancock (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) in the 1,000-meter run (2:42.21).
 
Pacing the women was Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) with a first in the 300-meter dash. Shaw crossed the finish line in 43.14. Also taking home a championship was Tomika Brown (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontaine) in the 60-meter hurdles, while teammate Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) took second. Brown finished in 9.40 and McLellan followed at 9.52.
 
Taking third in the 400-meter dash was Jessica Jones (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon). Jones covered the track in 1:03.61.
 
Scoring the top placing for the Berg in the field events was Alison Marty (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) with a fifth in the long jump. Marty leaped 15’3.25.”
