Bataille Picks Up All-America Honors
Junior Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) of the Heidelberg University women’s track and field team took home All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship after finishing seventh in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.31. Don Drumm Stadium, on the campus of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio was the site of the championship.
Bataille was making her first trip to outdoor nationals and her All-America honor joins her two accolades from the indoor track in the 55-meter dash. In the history of the program, Bataille is just the fifth outdoor All-American, and is the first since 14:51.73in the high jump in 1991.
Joining Bataille at nationals was freshman Tomika Brown (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontaine). Brown, a 2009 indoor high jump All-American, tried her hand at the outdoor high jump and finished in a tie for 12th after clearing 5’2.5”.
Rounding out the list of national qualifiers for Heidelberg in 2009 was the 4x400-meter relay team of senior Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), junior Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and freshmen Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) and Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township). The quartet finished fifth in its trial heat, but did not make the finals.
