Track Fairs Well in Indoor Opener

The Heidelberg College men’s and women’s indoor track team opened their 2008-09 season with the Oiler Open at the University of Findlay on December 6, 2008. Both teams had top finishers in the events.

Sprinter Judy Bataille finished fourth overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.86. More impressive was Bataille’s time of 7.76 which is a provisional qualifying mark for the Division III National Championships. Another amazing time was set today by Tomika Brown in the 60 meter hurdles. Her time of 9.35 set a Heidelberg school record in this event, topping the previous mark of 9.76 set by Casey Adams in 2006. Brown stood seventh in the final standings.

In the 300 meter dash Angela Zellner took fifth in a time of 43.77, while  Jazmine Shaw was seventh (44.58) and Shanice McLellan 10th (45.20). Lauren Bruynis finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:41.23 and the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Zellner, Shaw, Bruynis, and Bataille took seventh overall (4:16.12).

The men’s team had several top five finishers on the day.  Heidelberg’s solo first place winner was sprinter Seth Robertson in the men’s 300 meter dash, while Terrence Horton also placed second in this event. Robertson and Horton crossed the finish line in times of 36.56 and 37.00, respectively. In the first event, sprinter Adrian Balser, finished fourth place overall in the 60 meter dash (7.07). Joe Yoder took third place in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.78. The men’s 4x400 meter relay consisting of Robertson, Yoder, Horton and Frank Krill team finished fifth to round off the day with a time of 3:31.35.

Both teams will return from break for their next meet the Capital Rev. Mike Hout Invite at Capital University on January 10, 2009.
