Bevington & Depinet Lead Way at OAC Championship

Alliance, Ohio – May 1, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s track and field team continued to make strides on its outdoor campaign this weekend at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio.

Host Mount Union won the championship followed by Marietta College and Ohio Northern University. Capital University and Baldwin-Wallace College rounded out the top-five. The Berg stood ninth in the final standings.

Leading the way for the Berg was Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway). On Friday, she leaped to all-league honors in the long jump. Bevington had a NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying mark of 18’3, which stood second in the OAC.

Bevington returned today to take home runner-up honors in the high jump as well. She cleared 5’3.75 to earn All-OAC honors once again. She rounded out her weekend with a fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, in a time of 15.71.

Senior Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) picked up her second All-OAC honor in the 400-meter dash. She finished in third in a time of 58.30.

Rounding out the All-OAC performers was the 4x400-meter relay team of Depinet, Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township), Kristin Burns (Milford Center, Ohio / Fairbanks) and Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) . The quartet finished in third with a time of 4:03.96.

Taking home a fourth place finish in the shot put was Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights), while Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) concluded the scoring for the Berg with a sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.95).
