Delaware, Ohio – April 9, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s track and field team was paced by four first-place finishes en route to a fifth place finish at the annual Marv Frye Invitational, held on Saturday at Selby Field and the George Gautheir Track. The event was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Heidelberg’s first place finishes led the way to its 61 points.
Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) paced Heidelberg, for the second week in a row, with two of its four titles on the day. Goodman crossed the finish line in 12.78 in the 100 meter dash, followed by clocking in at 25.84 in the 200, which was .09 and 1.03 seconds, respectively, faster than a week ago.
Not to be outdone, Goodman teamed up for the 4x100-meter relay hampionship, finishing in an invite record time at 49.24. It broke the time of 49.41, which was set in 1995. Joining Goodman was Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway), Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota) and Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township).
Bevington was also third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.29), but also showcased her depth off the track as well. Bevington leaped to first in the long jump with a leap of 18’.5”.
Showing a strong performance in the finals was Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) who improved on her preliminary time in the 400 meter dash by more than two seconds to earn second place at 58.39.
In the throws, Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) earned a top-five performance in shot put with a toss of 36’11”.
