'Berg Has Strong Finish at Sparky Adams Invite

Berea, Ohio – April 23, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s track and field teams competed today at the unscored Sparky Adams Invitational at the George Finnie Stadium hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.

The meet consisted of athletes from 32 NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions.

Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) paced Heidelberg with a personal record time of 57.63 in the 400 meter dash for a second place finish. The time was only .33 seconds off from a NCAA Division III Nationals provisional mark.

Following was Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) with a third place finish in long jump with a leap of 18’5”, a measurement that earns her a provisional qualifying mark. Amber Welfle (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) was close behind Bevington with a sixth place mark at 17’1½”.  

Bevington also earned a top-10 finish in the track events, finishing tenth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.10). She also teamed up with Shaw, Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota) and Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) for fifth place in the 4x100 meter relay team at 49.03.

Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) finished fourth in shot put with a toss of 39’11¼”.

Not to be outdone, Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) threw a personal best in javelin with a toss of 103’7”.
