'Berg Earns Sixth at OAC Championships

Alliance, Ohio – April 30, 2011 - The Heidelberg University track and field teams, under the guidance of ­­­first-year head coach Briana Shook, participated in the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. The event was hosted by the University of Mount Union. The women finished in sixth place with a total of 71 points.

Heidelberg had six All-OAC honorees and two first-place finishers.  

Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) led the charge with a first place finish in long jump with a leap of 18’.25”. Bevington also earned conference honors in the 100 meter hurdles (15.16) and in the 4x100 meter relay (48.96). She teamed up with Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township), Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota) and Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) for third place.

Bevington also earned third in triple jump (35’6”) and fifth in high jump (5’0.5”).

Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) was the second first place finisher with earning the championship crown in the 100 meter dash (12.71). She also picked up fourth in the 200 (26.46).

Rounding out the All-OAC honorees for the Berg was Shaw in with a 58.67 mark in the 400 meter dash, earning her third place.

Earning fourth in their respective events was Aailyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) in shot put (39’7.75”) and Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11.54.53).
