Women's Track & Field Participates in Dr. Keeler Invite

Naperville, Ill. – May 14, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams are making a final run for a spot in the 2011 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships. This week both the men and women traveled to North Central College in Naperville, Ill. for the Dr. Keeler Invite.

Heidelberg had a handful of entries and came away with three provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships on the men’s side, along with a variety of near provisional marks for both teams.

Leading the way was the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland), Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) and Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington). The group finished in fourth in a provisional qualifying time of 3:15.67. Following the outing its time ranks 15th on the list of possible national qualifiers.

Bowmar also had a provisional mark in the javelin. He placed fifth in the event with a throw of 200’10” which ranks 15th on the provisional list. His toss also topped his own Heidelberg school record of 193’0 he set last season.

Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) tied for the high jump championship with a provisional jump of 6’8”. Davis has already cleared a spot for himself at nationals in the past week with an automatic jump of 6’10”. He also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22’11.75”.

Also placing in the top-10 on the men’s side was Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve). In the shot put Medina placed seventh with a toss of 49’7.25”.

For the women, the 4x100-meter relay team just missed a provisional qualifying time. The quartet of Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway), Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota), Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) crossed the finish line in 48.70, which stood fifth.

Individually, Goodman neared a provisional time in the 200-meter dash. She finished in 25.80 to stand fifth. Goodman also took home seventh place in the 100-meter dash (12.67).

Shaw crossed the finish line in ninth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 58.52 to finish ninth.

Rounding out the top placers for the women was Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) with a fifth in the shot put (39’10”).
